I had the privilege of serving with Jim on the board of the Illinois chapter of the Elite Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business Network. He was a great guy, and I enjoyed hearing his stories about early days in Chicago and the military. He is already missed by many, and I am sorry for your loss.

I am sad to hear of Coaches passing. He made the biggest impact on me during my athletic career as a teenager and as I go through life now. I find myself trying to instill much of what he passed on to me in my kids as they develop as ahtletes. He was a great man and won't be forgotten!

We are so sorry for your loss! Your dad was a great man and will be missed. Having him coach me in both football and baseball at Bishop Noll had a big impact on the athlete and leader I became. He cared about the people he coached as more than just athletes and I feel fortunate having had the opportunity to play under him.

I used to enjoy seeing him at the adult softball fields in Highland. I can't remember who he used to go see play but whenever I umpired he always stopped by and we always had a great conversation. One of the last things we talked about - he was telling about his all-time "all-star" baseball line-up of people he coached at Bishop Noll - the last thing he said as he looked me right in the eye, he said, "And I would pick you to be the captain." That has stayed with me for many years. It chokes me up knowing he felt that highly of me. I'm sorry he's gone.

We will keep him and your family in our thoughts and prayers. God bless!

Our deepest sympathy to Vicki, Jamie, Monica Joy, Chris, Matt and the entire Mika and Felger families. Thank you for sharing Jim with all of us. We wish we could be there to share the celebration of his life. Jim changed the lives of many, including ours. He had a huge heart. I had the privilege of watching him work with many young student athletes. He consistently stressed character and moral values. He was a role model not only for athletes but for all of us involved in his life. While we will all now have a void in our lives, we know that our lives have been made better because of Jim. Rest in peace Big Guy.

Matt (Son) - 8/6/2012 11:37PM (CST)
Dad,

Thank you for being a true father and friend. I love you.

I only knew Mr. Mika a short time, but in that time I found him to be a true gentleman, kind with a true gentle soul. I would like to express my sincere condolences to his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. May God bless you during this time of sorrow.

Jeff and Pam Brammann (Friend) - 8/6/2012 5:18PM (CST)
To Vicki and to Jim's children and grandchildren - please accept our heartfelt condolences about Jimâs loss.

Vicki, you and Jim made a great couple. Pam and I always enjoyed talking with you both about any subject. Jim struck me as a very smart guy who always had a well thought out opinion on any topic, whether you agreed with him or not.

Although I hate to imagine your grief right now, Iâm so glad that you and Jim found each other. It may seem to be a cruel irony that you only had a few years together, but as painful as this time may be for you, just remember that you were able to bring each other happiness for the last few years of Jim's life, and you were there for him when he needed you at the end.
