Evelyn L. Dexter, 79, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, October 17, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 22nd at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. Friday, October 21st at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Genesis Cancer Care Institute.
Evelyn was born in 1932 in Chicago to Myron and Oralee Oaks. She married Jack on July 31, 1951 in Cambridge, IL. Jack passed on April 20, 2010. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she also loved her dogs, Tug and Weezie. She was her children's biggest sports fan. She enjoyed working backstage with her husband Jack in local theaters, and was a member of the Davenport Police Auxiliary. In earlier years she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed creative sewing for her family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a challenging jigsaw puzzle.
Survivors include her daughters, Gayla Dexter of Davenport, Candyce M. (David) Vickroy of East Moline, IL, and Ann L. Dexter of Davenport; sons, Kurt G. Dexter of Mt. View, CA, Kent M. (Gina) Dexter of Davenport, and Jack (Francoise) Dexter of Delmar, IA; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Jackie Taylor and a brother, Wade Oaks.
Evelyn's family extends a special thank you to Dr. George Kovack and his staff for their outstanding and compassionate care throughout her illness.
